Your top ten. Give them to me. Saw some 12/14 year olds meme (guessing because of the titles that were on it) on here which made me laugh because it had "Top 10 Literature" and most of them are fairly recent works, which I can assure you, makes the literary masters roll in their graves. There is a difference between 'literary work' and real 'literature'.

But. That being said, a lot of my favorite books will probably never be on required reading list in schools and studied by children as part of a curriculum. I'm at peace with this.

Here's ten of my favorite books, more in the order I thought of them rather than anything else.

Phantom of the Opera- Classic literary work, highly unappreciated. An up and coming ballerina/Opera singer finds herself embroiled in a drama worthy only of the Paris opera house, tutored by the mysterious Angel of Music who is far from angelic, in a place that is haunted and run by the Opera Ghost. This book is actually based on a true story.

Harry Potter-  You know, but I'll tell you anyway. Having grown up living as a unwanted house guest with his Aunt and Uncle, Harry has lived a very unhappy life. This all turns around as his eleventh birthday nears and he starts receiving letters in the mail. It is his acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. "You're a wizard, Harry."

Mortal Instruments- When her mother goes missing and Clary is attacked by a monster in her own home, she soon finds herself getting swept away into a world long hidden from her, a past she never knew about coming back to haunt her.

Twilight- This is a love it or hate it series, it really is, with love them or hate them characters. Despite the hate and the rabid fangirls, if you have not read this series, I suggest you sit down and do so with an open mind, and please do not say you saw the movies. The movies were terrible, Kristen Stewart has the emotional range of a teaspoon and about as many facial expressions. I enjoyed these books, the first one especially. I found it really cute, and Bella's exasperation with Edward very funny. Like, when she wants to ram her truck into his shiny Volvo out of sheer spite.

The Hunger Games- Taking place in a world called Panem, what was once the USA, their world is split into 12 districts all ruled by the iron fist of the Capitol. Every year, one boy and girl from each district are selected and forced to face each other in an elaborate arena until only one remains standing. This fight to the death is aired on television as entertainment and to remind the districts who is in charge.

The Lord of the Flies- I'm a fan of dystopian scoiety and survival books, you'll notice. A plane of all male grade school students crashes on an island and the boys must band together to survive even as the morals of civilized society leave them and they slip more into madness and savagery.

The Outsiders- Required reading in school. Short book, I can read it in less than an hour, but I love this book and every time I read it, it evokes the same reactions. This is also a true story, the MC is the author, but with a gender change. This is a book about the bonds of family, how family is more than blood, and how the circumstances you grow up in do not decide your fate. Your live and what becomes of it is up to you, and heroes are made, not born.

Little Women- A classic. I've read this book til my copy fell apart and I had to replace it. I also like to 1991(?) movie adaptation with Susan Surandon, Wynona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, and Christian Bale. I love, love this book. Read it, and you'll feel as though you grew up apart of the March family.

Artemis Fowl- Boy genius who's family's wealth is garnered through years of black market trading and procuring of priceless art and other valueables, Artemis has learned of another realm living along side ours and decides to take one of its inhabitants hostage in order to recieve the enormous ransom required he be given for his victim's safe return according to their laws. This is one undertaking that might be even too much for Artemis though, and his reasons for doing it go much deeper than love of money.

Timeless- Yes, you read correctly. I listed my own book as a favorite. It is. I love these characters and their world and their stories. Hayln simply wanted a chance at an exceptional education, even if it meant making herself an outcast in her new school. Laying low doesn't really work when the majority don't want you around, the rest want to toy with you, and a mysterious, yet familiar transfer student claims he knows you from a past you don't believe ever happened.

I demand a recount. lol Saying you like a color shouldn't count against you. Not that I MIND being in Slytherin, I just so would not be the sterotype. I'm like a Gryffindor meets Slytherin, I think. I make fun of you, but only because I like you, it's teasing, I don't do it to be mean, and would do backflips to make it up to you if I ever hurt your feelings. Gryffindor's are competitive, welfare is poorly designed and caters to the lazy rather than the needy. I think I'm more a Gryffindor, but I like the Slytherins, too. "Nevermore" as in like the poem written by Edgar Allen Quoth the Raven Nevermore Poe. Except, this is a book. It is amazing. I read all 564 pages yesterday. Go buy it and read it, and then donate money to help keep the Poe House (a museum) from closing. I wonder if they realize the irony in the name given their current financial crisis?
